There are all sorts of ways to cut an ellipse but the easiest way to get a perfect shape is to use a router jig of some sort. this ellipse jig is not original, i have seen variations of it in several books, but it is very easy to make and works a treat.. Our december 2011 issue of popular woodworking magazine features a gorgeous table project by designer/craftsman jeff miller. his arch table includes graceful, sweeping curves in the base. to generate the shape of these curves jeff uses a shop made ellipse drawing jig. it’s easy to make and crazy.
Best answer: it states on the box how large of an ellipse it'll make. i have both the small and the large one and i am sorry to say that my "honey do" list has gotten in the way of me trying them out. i know the large one states it'll make a2' x4' ellipse. i plan to use it on the tops of my arched doorways. reply; inaccurate.
